I started Shell Lake Rentals because I was tired of seeing nice properties and machines passed off to faceless platforms that nickel-and-dime guests and owners alike.
Every cabin and vehicle on this site is something I'd be comfortable handing the keys to a friend for. I meet renters in person when I can, I leave the place stocked, and I'm a phone call away the whole time you're here. If something isn't perfect, I want to hear about it — before you leave a review, not after.

Not when you submit a request. Your card is saved on file, and Kevin charges it only after he's personally approved your dates. If your request can't be accommodated, no charge ever happens.
Linens, towels, basic pantry staples (coffee, oil, salt, etc.), kayaks/paddleboard where listed, and the fishing boat at Birchwood. Wood for the stove is stocked in cooler months.
Yes — a refundable deposit is held against accidental damage. The amount is shown on each listing. It's released back to your card within a few days of checkout, assuming everything's in order.
Birchwood is dog-friendly for small dogs. Vehicles are not. Always mention it when you book so Kevin can confirm details and add a small per-stay cleaning fee.
Full refund up to 14 days before your stay. 50% refund 7–14 days out. Inside a week, the rental is non-refundable — though Kevin will work with you on edge cases.
The Polaris RZR is rented as-is for trail use. We don't include trailer hitches, but Kevin can recommend a local equipment shop for trailer rentals if you're driving in from out of state.
Kevin reads every email himself, usually replies within a few hours.
